A Brief History of Karate

Karate translation means...China hand or empty hand as of the 1950s. Karate is a unique art. Karate was developed in the Ryukyu Island over the last several hundred years. Okinawa is the main island of the Ryukyu Islands and is located between Japan and China. The Okinawan people and Bushi (warriors) were often without weapons and needed protection in many circumstances. The Empty Hand was all that was available during many incounters and this is what lead to Karate as we know it! The philosophies, applications and techniques of Karate do differ from those of Judo, Kickboxing and Tae Kwon-Do and other martial arts...Not better just different!


SHORIN-RYU IS ONE MAJOR STYLE OF KARATE - It is considerated a hard style martial art. The heart of Shorin-Ryu Karate lies within its Kata! Its history dates back to the early 1800s.
